The HAUS DER ZUKUNFT (since July 5, 2016, FUTURIUM) is an exhibition and event venue in the heart of Berlin—nestled between the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Spree River and Humboldthafen, the main train station, and the Charité hospital grounds. Within this ensemble, the House of the Future develops its own sculptural form. Two squares are created at the main access points on Alexanderufer and Kapelleufer by setting back the building line. Undercuts on the north and south sides of the building form the entrances and become covered communication zones in the public space. The butterfly-shaped unfolding of the building structure into urban high points gives the House of the Future its visual prominence between the Spree and the elevated railway.
